Count Binface has made an odd reference to Merseyside in a 20-point manifesto released ahead of the Claton-on-Sea by-election next month. The comedian-turned-political hopeful released the manifesto today, Monday, where he made a reference to one Southport business which is niche even for those who live in the town.
He pledged: "The hand-dryer in the gents' toilet at the Great Himalayas restaurant, Southport, to be moved to a more sensible position."
This move isn't as odd as it might seem on the face of it, with a section on his website, countbinface.com, labelled "handdryergate" where he proudly states he pledges to move the hand-dryer in the mens' toilets in the Crown and Treaty in Uxbridge, West London, resulting in a treaty being signed in the pub itself should he be elected as a member of parliament.
He has since said the the "scandal gets deeper" as he shows the placement of the handdryer in the Southport restaurant, located close to the urinal in the small mens' toilets.
Below the photo, it said: "Lethal, I'm sure you agree. If you spot any similar travesties, send me a photo. (Careful when you do it, obviously)."
Reacting to the news, the Nepalese restaurant wrote on Facebook: "We’ve had a right giggle this morning. Our hand dryer keeps getting mentioned in comments and messages, and we genuinely couldn’t work out why…
"Then we saw number 17… ( thanks to all the messages who helped us figure out what was going on). Count Binface… if you’re reading this… where should we move it to?"
The manifesto features several unexpected points, with Nigel Farage's adversary also wanting Wayne Rooney to be an expert summariser for the BBC at Eurovision, bus fares to be capped at £1.99 and 99 Flake ice creams to cost no more than 99p.
He also would represent the UK in Eurovision 2027, with the aim of Clacton hosting Eurovision 2028.
Count Binface is seen as Mr Farage's key opponent in the by-election as Labour, the Conservatives and the Lib Dems all refused to put forward candidates when the Reform UK leader stepped down to trigger the election earlier this month.
It came against the backdrop of Nigel Farage facing increased scrutiny over payments to him and his party, with Tory leader Kemi Badenoch labelling it a "joke" by-election.
Shortly before the announcement of his resignation as MP on July 7, Mr Farage had faced mounting questions over a £5 million gift he received from crypto-billionaire and Reform donor Christopher Harborne.
The party leader has billed the by-election, likely to take place on August 13, as a “people versus the establishment” contest.
But in recent weeks, he has faced even more scrutiny over donations to Reform UK by a company controlled by the party's deputy leader Richard Tice, with Metropolitan Police investigating two donations of £250,000 in the run-up to the 2024 general election by Britain Means Business, according to The Times.
The money was paid to his company by Reform donor Fiona Cottrell, Mr Tice has previously outlined. She is said to have given £1 million to Britain Means Business in June 2024, and half of that money was then given to Reform.
As first reported by the BBC, police are examining the transactions involving Mr Tice’s company.
Mr Tice said: “The BBC article is the first I have heard of it – if true why are the Met Police briefing the BBC before contacting interested parties? Is the Met leadership now engaged in the widespread politically motivated smear campaign against Reform and its leaders?
“Please remember the National Crime Agency is now having to investigate its own potential criminal offences against Reform leaders.”
A Reform UK spokesman said: “Reform takes pride in its stringent vetting of donations and always ensures that the Electoral Commission guidelines on donations, as set out in the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000, are strictly followed, as has been the case with donations so far.”
The Met said two people have so far been interviewed under caution.
