Gordon Ramsay reflects on how his 'torrid' relationship with his dad has shaped his own journey with fatherhood in his new Netflix show.

In the first episode of the docu-series, Being Gordon Ramsay, the father-of-six talks about his troubled childhood with his alcoholic dad, Gordon.

In the show, the TV personality, 59, also admits his own parenting regrets.

He says he felt at times he prioritised work over being there for his four eldest children; daughter Megan, 27, twins Holly and Jack 26, and Tilly, 24.

He says: 'I, sadly, had a torrid relationship with my father. My father called me a snob once. And I said, "No, definitely not a snob. I just want to get out of the s**t mess I was born in.'

Gordon, who is worth an estimated £162million, lived in 15 different council estates, with his mother juggling three jobs to keep the family afloat.

The chef recalls weekends where he would 'almost watch his father ruin his life through alcohol'.

He continues: 'It's hard, isn't it, when someone's an alcoholic? It's very hard to relate to that, because you're just … you're nervous.

'You're worried about, you know, hitting the end of the bottle and seeing that bottle of Bacardi disappear, because you know what happens at the end of that.'

While Gordon turned to cooking after his football career was cut short due to a knee injury and went on to work at Marco Pierre White at Harveys, his brother Ronnie, 58, became addicted to heroin.

In 1998, Ramsay opened his own restaurant in Chelsea and it went on to gain three Michelin stars in 2001, making history as the first Scot to achieve that feat.

But as his success soared, it meant he couldn't be around as much at home with his wife Tana and their children.

He says: 'I absolutely adore the kids. There's part of that love and affection that has built up through guilt.

'The older ones have made it clear and say, "Can we see you more?" and, "Dad, we miss you." I feel I could have been there a bit more.'

He says:' I'll make more time because I don't want them to say, "You weren't there for my first day at school".'

'Everyone thinks travelling is glamorous. But it's super full-on. Being away from home is tough. I want that time to go as quickly as possible. It's the little ones I miss. It's hard. I miss them terribly.'

The six-part docuseries will follow Gordon, 57, open five culinary experiences in 22 Bishopsgate, a 278-metre building in central London, with a budget of £20million.

It will also give a sneak peek into his personal life with his wife Tana and their six children.
