Shifting the focus from sword-and-sandal action in The Odyssey, the new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day whisks Tom Holland away from Ithaca to New York and… a passage through time. Aptly titled “Peter’s Journey,” it looks back at the major events in the character’s life as Spider-Man, from best friend Ned’s accidental discovery of his superhero identity and meeting other versions of himself in 2021’s No Way Home to, of course, the moment leading up to asking Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to erase him from everyone’s memory.

But a hero’s work is never done, and the upcoming adventure will have its fair share of threats. The first is likely the undisclosed role played by Stranger Things star Sadie Sink, followed by Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, who Spidey faces off against in the clip (which was also teased in an earlier trailer).

“It’s a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control,” reads the official synopsis. “But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves–a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.”

Directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings helmer Destin Daniel Cretton, the latest instalment is described as featuring “the most truthful version of what Spider-Man means to New York City”, per Holland in a recent virtual press conference held in New York. Joining him and Ruffalo on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) returnee roster are Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned, and Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, with Tramell Tillman, Liza Colon-Zayas, and Marvin Jones among the new additions. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers wrote the script, while producers include Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O’Connor.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits the silver screen on 30 July.
