Everything changed when the Avatar is no longer marked as the world’s saviour. In Avatar: Seven Havens, the first new series set in the animated world of Avatar: The Last Airbender in over a decade, the moniker of Avatar doesn’t inspire hope, and instead is associated with the harbinger of doom.

At the centre of this narrative is a young Earthbender who discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra in the wake of a devastating catastrophe. She’s also just a child measuring around three apples tall, as seen in the teaser trailer, and encounters an identical-looking individual on her journey to master the ‘bending’, or manipulation of all four elements, with Korra, now sporting a stroke of white hair, also appearing briefly. Unfortunately for her, she has to carry the burden of being humanity’s destroyer.

“Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilisation’s last strongholds collapse,” adds the official logline.

Franchise creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko return to helm and executive produce Avatar: Seven Havens, which will run for 26 episodes, split into two parts (or “books”, in Avatar jargon) of 13 episodes each. Nickelodeon and its Avatar Studios, led by the duo, are producing, and its voice cast includes Saheli Khan, Aishu Devan, Akshay Khanna, Major Curda, Sakina Jaffrey, Darren Barnet, Dianne Doan, and Dee Bradley Baker.

More notably, the series is slated to debut on Paramount+ on 9 October, the original date set for the premiere of Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, before moving up to 25 July after the entire film was leaked online. Running from 2005 to 2008, the original show follows Aang on his quest to master all four elements — water, earth, fire, and air — to fulfil his destiny as the Avatar and bring peace to the world by defeating the Fire Lord, the ruling supreme of the Fire Nation. Since its finale, the series continued for four seasons with The Legend of Korra, receiving a string of comic books, prequel novels, and two live-action adaptations: M. Night Shyamalan’s widely panned film and a two-season run on Netflix. A third and final season for the live-action adaptation has been greenlit.
