Welcome to “Am I Blue” for the beginning level, as part of our Simple Songs series where we focus less on the theory and more on learning the notes, fingering, and the arrangement.
This course is divided into 5 lessons, each consisting of a different part of the arrangement. Lesson 1 begins with the intro, and Lessons 2-4 teach the melody and chords of the body of the song. Lesson 5 ends with the full arrangement along with a backing track. You’re going to love this arrangement!

Another great arrangement from the Simple Song Series! I have worked on several of these Jazz Swing tunes from the Simple Song Series and I love what I am learning in the process. Arrangements are basic enough to be within the reach of the Beginner-Intermediate player without sacrificing the richness of these Jazz Standard gems. You get the full lush 7th chords with some basic extensions and colors and the emphasis is on being able to play without a deep dive on theory. Focus is on chords, fingering & rhythms. I have played through several of these Swing Standards and, because they are mostly written in the same, or similar, keys and employing similar chords from one tune to the next, my hands are beginning to naturally move into position, anticipating the familiar shapes. I can literally feel my progress as I tackle each new song. Working through these tunes is not meant to ignore or bypass theory, but rather to concentrate on playing great songs while getting familiar and comfortable with more complex chords and their fingerings. I love this idea and it is allowing me an entry into the wonderful world of jazz without being overwhelmed with complex theory. Thanks again to teacher John Proulx and all of the PWJ team!!
