Samsung always tries to be first to market with new technologies, and although that strategy didn’t work out at all well with its original folding phone, the company is undeterred. It’s just announced that its latest smartphone with not one but two folds goes on sale in the US at the end of this week.

The Galaxy Z TriFold is Samsung’s first new foldable form factor since 2020’s Galaxy Z Flip release, with the new device building on the Galaxy Fold series with a third section of screen (two hinges) that unfolds to a wider 10-inch display. The TriFold has been available in Korea and some other regions for a few weeks now, but Samsung isn’t wasting any time in bringing it to the United States.

Today, Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Z TriFold will see a US release date of January 30, this coming Friday, with the device available at Samsung.com as well as at Samsung Experience Stores.

The Galaxy Z TriFold will be priced at $2,899 in the US, pretty close to what we predicted.

That’s getting rather close to the price of a Vision Pro.

Samsung’s first launch of a folding phone proved so disastrous it was forced to cancel all pre-orders due to the fragility of the device. It seems the company may have similar fears about this one.

There have been rumors that Samsung will not offer insurance coverage for the TriFold via its Care+ program, with the device also not eligible for device trade-ins.

When a company won’t even sell you damage cover for an additional price, it doesn’t exactly fill you with confidence …
