Charter Communications July 24 reported a decline of 20,000 Spectrum Video subscribers in the second quarter ended June 30. The decline was a 75% improvement from 80,000 video customers lost in the previous-year period.
In the first half of 2026, Charter lost 81,000 video subscribers, down almost 70% from a loss of 261,000 customers in the previous-year period.
Charter ended the quarter as the largest cable operator in the country with more than 12.5 million customers — down from 12.6 million in the prior year period. Former No. 1, Comcast, ended its quarter with more than 10 million video subscribers.
At the same time, Charter saw 172,000 high-speed internet customers cancel their subscription, up 48% from 116,000 sub losses in the same quarter last year.
Charter ended the fiscal period with 29.4 million Spectrum internet customers, down from 29.9 million subs last year.
Through the first six months of the fiscal year, Charter has lost 292,000 internet customers, up 66% from a loss of 175,000 subscribers last year.
CEO Chris Winfrey said the results underscore the competitive environment facing Charter consumer products, and its strategy for growing
connectivity, which saw customer cancelations balloon 314% to 265,000 in the first six months of the year from 64,000 last year.
“We look forward to delivering the benefits of that strategy to Cox’s customers and communities after the [$34.5 billion equity] transaction closes,” said Winfrey.
