Former Auburn Tigers head coach Bruce Pearl did not mince words with how he’s felt about the Alabama Crimson Tide’s decision to play Charles Bediako over the last several weeks.

After calling for the NCAA to consider a tournament ban on Alabama last week, Pearl has issued some strong words about Nate Oats now that the situation is over and Bediako has been ruled ineligible by the NCAA and the courts.

Oats said he would do it all again if he had the chance because it was what was best for his former player. In response, Pearl questioned Oats’ motivations and called his former adversary selfish.

“He says he’d play him again 100 times out of 100. What it tells me is Nate doesn’t really care about the SEC, he doesn’t care about the NCAA,” Pearl said during a TNT broadcast. “That’s fine, you wanna care about your student athletes that’s fine. But you’re a member of this conference and a member of the NCAA. What about the rest of the teams? What about the rest of the players? Why should those five teams have had to play against an ineligible player? I think it was selfish, and I think it was wrong.”

Alabama went 3-2 in the games Bediako played in, including a victory over Auburn, which potentially made this personal for Pearl.

Always a staunch defender of what he believes is best for the sport, Pearl is never going to hesitate to speak his mind.
