Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer took perhaps the highest pressure job in the nation following the retirement of his predecessor Nick Saban, and that pressure is not lost on him.

Through the first two years of his administration in Tuscaloosa, to say the results have been up and down would be an understatement. With countless ranked wins but a significant number of poor losses as well, including some very ugly performances, DeBoer knows it has not been good enough.

National titles are the expectation at Alabama, and he was asked this week at SEC Media Days whether or not he thinks that is how his tenure will be evaluated.

Clearly, it’s not lost on him.

“I certainly know that that’s an important part of what’s happened in the program, so I wouldn’t doubt if that’s the case,” DeBoer said with a smile when asked if he believes whether or not he wins a title will be what defines his tenure.

He did go on to give a Saban-esque answer about not being focused on the bigger goals but rather the day-to-day process of what it takes to achieve those goals.

“I’m not focused on that,” he said. “I’m focused on helping our program be the best and trying to bring out the best and raise the level of everyone around me from coaching staff to our players trying to maximize what we are capable of every single day.”

DeBoer was brought in after Saban’s retirement to keep the program on top of the sport, and while he has not done that to this point, he is going to continue to take the steps towards making that happen on a daily basis.
