Hi, setting up, week 2, AIO 5.4.9 the latest version. All is going well, and I’m not the/a developer – they are unavailable. Have set most basic settings and am venturing further in for max protect. BTW, set up Rename Login Page, and it works great – site was getting slammed by bots and one particularly obsessive hacker.
So, for File Permissions, just two instances I want to be sure not to mess up – I’m the site account manager, not a developer but out of necessity the one overseeing this stuff. In the Delete Default WP Files section of File Security tab – I just want to be sure I’m not deleting anything the site needs, it all sounds like routine WP intro stuff and not anything to do with the active site, but I’m cautious and checking with you. I’d set it to: Delete readme.html, license.txt, and wp-config-sample.php setting to active if no harm? Yes, cause I gain 10 security points?
In the File Permissions tab, most all entries in the WP Directory and File Permissions Scan Results are stated as “No Action Required”, good, there’s just one entry here that asks for action to; Set Recommended Permissions for the wp config.php folder/file. Currently permission is set to 0644, and it recommends it be set to 0640. Which I’d be happy to do but not sure if changing that would mess things up. Would it? If yes, what would it affect – in simple terms, and is there a manner to address it. Hey, this setting will gain me 20 security points so, I’m hoping it works out.
Thank you – these forums are a life saver for a willing but unskilled web admin. I do read through the teamupdraft.com Help articles, but taking the “On” step for a setting is always best to be sure before setting things up.
