COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after causing a crash Friday evening in Boone County.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F shared on its social media just before 6 p.m. that troopers were investigating a multi-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70.

Troop F – which covers much of Mid-Missouri – wrote that the crash involved an intoxicated driver. The crash was reported on mile marker 119, which is between Columbia and the Cooper County line.

According to a MSHP crash report, a 34-year-old Columbia man was driving west in the right lane in a 2014 Dodge Durango when he veered off the highway and hit a guardrail. He then came back onto the road, and a 2015 Subaru Forester driven by a 69-year-old Columbia woman that was traveling behind him hit the back of his vehicle. The Subaru also hit a vehicle in the left lane— a 2013 Ford F150 driven by a 52-year-old Boonville man.

No one was seriously hurt, the report says. Only the man who caused the crash was reported to have moderate injuries. He was taken to University Hospital by ambulance after his vehicle was totaled. He was also the only driver reportedly not wearing a seatbelt.

An MSHP arrest report shows Steven T. Tracy was arrested around 5:30 p.m. Friday on suspicion of DWI, failing to drive on the right side of the road, and having no insurance and no seatbelt on.

Boone County Joint Communications initially reported the crash at 5:14 p.m. and stated traffic was being diverted from westbound I-70 to Highway 40 because of a “lane blockage.”

Westbound traffic was backed up near the Stadium Boulevard exit, according to Missouri Department of Transportation cameras.

MoDOT wrote online that traffic was expected to be affected for about two hours.
