A large fire left a scene of devastation after several acres of Cambridgeshire farmland went up in flames. Fire crews were called to a “well-developed” fire in a field on Malton Lane in Meldreth just before 8pm on Friday (July 17) evening.

The fire involved a combine harvester and it spread to around five acres of farmland. Photos from the scene show a large area of the field severely damaged by the blaze.

A fire spokesperson said: "At 7.55pm on Friday crews were called to a fire on Malton Lane in Meldreth. Crews from Gamlingay, Cambridge, Cambourne and Cottenham, along with a crew from Royston in Hertfordshire, attended the incident.

"Firefighters arrived to find a well-developed fire involving a combine harvester that had spread to around five acres of farmland. They extinguished the fire and returned to their stations by 11.30pm.”
