A while back, we wrote about people's WILDEST doctor's office visits. Then, a bunch of readers decided to share their own chaotic stories. Here are some of those responses:

1. "I needed to have a biopsy on my prostate, and the doctor told me the biopsy process was 'not too bad, it was just like a bad visit to the dentist.' He gave me a local anesthetic and then proceeded with the biopsy while I was awake. To perform the biopsy, a needle shot out of the tool inserted in my butt and took a sample, going deeper into the prostate with each sample. It got a little bit more intense each time. So, no problem at first, but by the 15th sample, it was sending me through the roof. I clarified with the urologist: 'You told me this was like a bad trip to the dentist?' He said, 'Correct.' I then said, 'Then you need to find a new fucking dentist.' We both were laughing uncontrollably for several minutes, and he finally said, 'You need to stop laughing, so that we can finish this procedure.'"

2. "I went to a new doctor. After three minutes, he looked at my husband, asked him if he wanted Viagra, and told me to mortgage my home and get weight-loss surgery! We walked out immediately."

—Anonymous, 65, female, Tampa, FL

3. "When I was 10, I had my tonsils out. I was told I could have all the popsicles and ice cream I wanted afterward (and I ate a LOT of popsicles as a child). My parents came to pick me up from the hospital the day after the surgery and found me in a pool of blood. I’d been vomiting up gallons of it. For the next 10 days or so, all I could taste was the sleeping gas they’d used to knock me out. Anytime my mother tried to give me something to eat, I would begin vomiting up blood again. Lost about 15 pounds, and I was a skeleton to begin with."

"The most embarrassing part: About six months later, my class was playing kickball on the baseball field outside our school. The field had been resurfaced, and I think some chemicals had been added to treat the dirt. A strong wind gust blew a cloud of that dirt into my face, and I started yelling, ‘I smell sleeping gas!’ Then, in front of the whole class, I started vomiting and couldn’t stop. My classmates laughed about that for weeks. They would yell ‘Sleeping gas!’ then make vomiting sounds. Thanks, friends!"

—Anonymous, 65, male, Ohio

4. "In the surgery suite for a colonoscopy, the doctor asks if I know what’s going to happen. I replied, 'You’re going to get me hammered and violate me.' He wasn’t amused."

—Anonymous

5. "I was at my cardiologist, having a stress test, and on the treadmill. The machine took off so fast while the practitioner was giving me the injection to make my heart beat faster. I was thrown off the machine and landed four feet behind with a broken arm in two places. Now, it's in the hands of an attorney. The ambulance was called and took me a mile up the road to the hospital. I was in the hallway for eight hours until a doctor ordered an X-ray and told me my arm was broken in two places. The cost was $7,000 for the X-ray, painkiller, and temporary cast."

6. "When I was about 10, I had to get blood work done for the first time that I could actually remember. But I had been hospitalized and gotten lots of IV shots in my life, and I was always in terrible pain for all of it. My veins have always been notoriously hard to find. I was very shaky and scared in the lab, and the nurse who was doing my blood draw tried to calm my nerves. She kept telling me to just close my eyes and relax, it wouldn't hurt at all, I wouldn't even feel it, she was that good. My grandpa told her that she had better be telling me the truth because if it did hurt, I would react. She said it was just my anxiety, and once I calmed down, I wouldn't feel much. Well, I closed my eyes like she asked and tried to relax, but it still hurt like hell when she inserted the needle into my arm. I held completely still, but I started wailing and crying. I was screaming, 'THAT DOES HURT! YOU LIAR THAT DOES HURT! HOW COULD YOU LIE TO ME LIKE THAT?!'"

"And kept on wailing and bawling. She finished the draw, but she kept begging me to stop crying and to relax, but I couldn't stop. My grandpa had zero empathy for her and was like, 'I tried to warn you, you lied to her, so now this is the consequence!' Apparently, a bunch of other kids in the waiting room started to freak out, too. The front desk gave me an extra sticker because they felt so sorry for me, and the nurse who lied to me was so embarrassed she had to go home early because she couldn't face anyone else in the office that afternoon."

7. "When I had my first colonoscopy, they’d prepped me and administered the IV and a dose of happy juice to relax before the main anesthesia. I lay there watching the male tech hurriedly prepping the procedure room. When he finished, he began explaining how the procedure would proceed and what the doctor and team would do. Then he said, 'And when you wake up, you’ll have a tremendous craving for a cigarette.' I thought it was pretty funny."

"When it was over, they told me to pass gas as much as I wanted, so I had a bit of fun, too. I was still loopy from the anesthesia (pre-Propofol days), so as they were wheeling me back to recovery, when I was rolled past anyone in the hall, I’d tell random people to 'Pull my finger.'"

—Anonymous, 67. Male, Nashville

8. "When I was 7, I had to have my appendix removed because it was making me really sick. Like, vomiting every five minutes and coughing so violently I thought I was gonna blow my throat out of my body. Anyway, the doctors successfully removed my appendix, but the funny part was I had woken up, and I was suuuper loopy. I said a lot of wild stuff, but the one that stuck with me was when my parents said hi to me. I said hi back and started talking to my grandparents. I was completely awake and fine. I just never opened my eyes at all and didn’t even know it. I just wondered why I couldn’t see anything. Well, duh! I’m pretty sure I was supposed to open my eyes!!🤣🤣🤣🤣"

—Anonymous, female, Illinois

9. "When I was having my gallbladder removed, I was told that they asked if I wanted my glasses to be taken off or if I wanted to wear them. Apparently, I considered carefully before answering, and then informed them that unless I was actually going to be the one doing the procedure on myself, that I would like my glasses off. I have no memory of this, but my hospital roommate’s wife told me that they and the hospital staff got quite the laugh out of my answer."

—Anonymous

10. "I was in my hospital room, waking up from a transplant. I called my nurse 'Hot Lips' and told her not to let Frank perform the surgery on me. I’m a fan of the TV series M*A*S*H. 🤣"

—Anonymous, 50, male, Connecticut

11. "During a first-time visit to an orthopedist, he asked me to stand and lift up my foot so he could examine it while he was crouched down on the floor. Unfortunately, I started to get a little wobbly and lose my balance, so I reached out to grab anything I could find to steady myself. Embarrassingly enough, I accidentally clutched his hair at the top of his head. I decided not to make things worse by complimenting him on how soft his hair was."

—Anonymous

12. "My husband was going in for surgery on his thumb after an accident. Before he went back, he joked about what would happen if the doctor were confused during surgery. After it was all finished, I went back to sit with him while he was waking up, at which point he yelled at the top of his lungs, 'Did they cut my balls off?' The place erupted with laughter, and I did my best to quiet him when he asked multiple times and insisted that I check."

—Anonymous, female, 49

13. "I’m a little hard of hearing. I have trouble with consonants. My dentist told his aide, 'Light.' I thought he said 'Bite,' so I did. Thankfully, I didn’t do any damage, but it hurt him quite a bit. He was very gracious about it. He’s the best dentist I’ve ever had, so I’ll be back."

—Anonymous, 71, male, St. Louis

14. "I was working as a provider in an urgent care center. A young woman came in with a vaginal problem that needed further evaluation. The medical assistant took her into the GYN room and placed her in stirrups. As I was about to insert the speculum into her vagina, I observed that she was wearing a T-shirt that had 'Pink Palace' printed on it. Without thinking, I commented, 'It looks like we arrived at the Pink Palace!' When I glanced up at the medical assistant, she could not hold it together. The patient, M.A., and I laughed uncontrollably for about five minutes."

—Anonymous

15. "I had my wisdom teeth pulled when I was 18. When they put me under, they told me to count backward from 100. I made it to 97. When I woke up only half an hour later, I didn’t realize the surgery was over until I tried to speak around a mouthful of gauze."

—Anonymous

16. "Years ago, I went in for a vasectomy. Little did I know that the prep nurse, who shaved my scrotum, was Cheryl, our next-door neighbor. We were still laughing so hard in embarrassment when the doctor came in. He said, 'If you two don’t calm down, I may cut the wrong thing.' That certainly calmed me down quickly."

—Anonymous, 66, male, CA

17. "Several decades ago, after the birth of our second child, I got a vasectomy. The doctor came highly recommended, and I had no qualms about getting the procedure. The procedure involved having an anesthetic shot directly into my tubes. To prepare me for this, the doctor said, 'This won’t hurt much. It will be just like a bee sting.' When he went to do the second tube, he said the same thing. I didn’t respond out loud, but wanted to say to him, 'Just how many times have you been stung in the balls?!?'"

18. "When I was being prepped for anesthesia for the removal of an ingrown toenail, I witnessed my surgeon being arrested, handcuffed, and taken away. Turns out he had murdered his wife years earlier, and they'd finally gotten the evidence needed to charge him. He got life."

19. "I recently had skin removal surgery on my stomach and an abdominal repair, along with a breast reduction and lift. It’s a notoriously painful surgery and a hard recovery. I woke up in the recovery room very groggy and in excruciating pain. So, dopey, dumbass me figured I would just…die instead. I literally held my breath, so I would not kill myself instead of staying in so much pain. This sent the beeping recovery room machines into a frenzy. The nurse kept reminding me to breathe, in absolute panic, as if holding my breath would actually work. You need to breathe post-op, but you don’t need to fear for someone’s survival. Worst un-aliving attempt ever."

20. "Recently, I had to be intubated for a procedure. When I came to, I said, 'My throat hurts. Don’t tell my husband.' I thought it was funny as fuck. The older nurses? Not so much."

dorasmarmy

21. "The first time I had to go in for an endoscopy was also the first time I had been on true sedation. The nurse was talking to me while the anesthesiologist was putting the meds into the IV, and the nurse was taking a last look over my demographics. She noticed my birth date, and was like, 'Oh, so you're a Scorpio! That must mean you're all mysterious and shit!' And that's when the anesthesia kicked in, and I went under. 😂 I also apparently managed to put my insulin pump back on after having my cholecystectomy, which I have absolutely no memory of. My mom said the nurse asked if I knew what I was doing, and my mom was like, 'Guess we'll find out!'"

22. Lastly, "I'm walking to my college class and out of the blue feel the worst pain ever. By the time I crossed the street, I was white and pouring sweat. 911 was offered, and I called my mom. I go to the hospital and anticipate hearing my appendix has to come out/cancer/I'm dying — SOMETHING SERIOUS, right? The nurse hands me a small pill. I said, 'Is this for surgery?' She says, 'Oh no. It's a gas pill. You have a gas bubble, you just need to fart.' I immediately called my friend and apologized. I still do to this day get the WORST pain. But at least I know when my son or I have gas to do a belly dance or take some Gas-X, lol."
