Looking for Information About Item Release Process

Hi Guys, I have a question about the Vault's item release process vs the non-item process capabilities.  A few years ago I was working at a place where we used the item master to release all our parts and assemblies and it created PDF's from every idw as well as DXF's from sheet metal parts and dumped them in an external file location.  Is this a feature that's currently built into Vault's regular release process or does it require the Item Release Process?  I think we also used to use a CoolOrange software in conjunction with our item release process this but the only thing I can find is PowerJobs and I don't understand where that would be different than the Job Processor already built into the vault? Anyone have any insight into the specifics of getting a release process that automates the creation and export of PDFs/DXF's and step files on state change?
