Rumors that U.S. President Donald Trump warned his Christian followers that they needed to get involved in politics spread online in July 2026. 

Specifically, some social media users posted an image of Trump along with the claim that he said, "If Christians don't get involved in politics, politics will erase their right to be Christians." 

The quote was incorrectly attributed to Trump. 

Trump has spoken about Christianity and his Christian supporters throughout his political career, but Snopes found no evidence he ever publicly said, "If Christians don't get involved in politics, politics will erase their right to be Christians." 

We reached out to the White House press office for comment on the alleged quote and will update this article if we get a response. 

Searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo returned no relevant results from credible media outlets about such a quote, which would have been widely reported if Trump had publicly said those words. Further searches for the quote on its own, without Trump's name, returned no relevant results. 

In most searches, a high-ranking search result pointed to a short YouTube video published by a channel called "USA News Hub," which featured a variety of fake or AI-generated content on its page ranging from politics to sports and other short videos featuring questionable quotations. The account was created in October 2025 and based in India, according to the publicly viewable information.

In addition, popular Facebook accounts spreading the alleged quote with images of Trump are also based outside of the U.S. in Nigeria, according to their account details. 

Accounts based outside of the U.S. are a common denominator in the spread of fake news about national politics, as Snopes has previously reported — further evidence the quote in question was made up to spread disinformation. 

The alleged quote likely spread on social media due to its close proximity to things Trump has said in the past regarding the alleged persecution of Christians in America, possibly created to incite a reaction from both sides of the aisle and achieve a wider reach.

For example, Trump spoke at length about Christians being targeted during a 2024 campaign speech at a Turning Point USA event, promising that should he win a second term, the Justice Department and FBI would "no longer be allowed to target, persecute or round up Christians or pro life activists and throw them in jail for living out their religious beliefs." 

He also spoke about Christians "not having to vote anymore" should he be victorious, which Snopes previously investigated.
