HTC’s next comeback attempt is a pair of AI smart glasses

HTC’s long decline appears to be slowing, but the company’s future now depends on whether AI smart glasses, enterprise XR and VIVERSE can turn into a real business.

HTC reported consolidated revenue of NT$292 million, or about $10 million, for June 2026. That was down 8.5% year over year, while first-half revenue fell 9.7%. The numbers are still weak for a company that once helped define Android phones, but the decline is no longer as steep as it has been for much of the past decade.

HTC is much smaller today. It sold a large part of its smartphone engineering team and IP to Google in 2018, and Google also acquired part of HTC’s XR engineering team in 2025.

HTC is putting more weight behind VIVE Eagle

HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang told shareholders that AI is one of the company’s most important trends, and the company’s first AI-powered smart glasses, VIVE Eagle, are expected to arrive in the U.S. and Europe in Q3 2026.

The glasses are already part of HTC’s consumer hardware reset. Reuters previously reported that VIVE Eagle supports multiple AI platforms, including Google Gemini and OpenAI, instead of locking buyers into a single assistant. HTC is also trying to use privacy as a selling point, with the company saying user data is not used to train its AI models.

That gives HTC a different pitch from Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses, Xiaomi’s AI glasses and Alibaba’s Quark glasses. HTC is trying to sell smart glasses as open AI eyewear, which could appeal to people who do not want one company controlling the entire assistant experience.

HTC’s VR headset roadmap looks quiet

HTC’s last major headset was the VIVE Focus Vision, released in September 2024 for $1,150. It was aimed mostly at enterprise buyers and enthusiasts, and our hands-on with VIVE Focus Vision also found it stronger as a business headset than a clear consumer VR comeback.

HTC did not use the shareholder update to lay out a new XR headset strategy. That leaves VIVE Eagle, VIVERSE and enterprise services carrying more of the story.

VIVERSE has at least found some activity. HTC says the platform had more than 1.7 million monthly active users in May, with over 32,000 pieces of content and at least 14,000 creators.

The problem is revenue. HTC has shown it can survive after smartphones and stay present in XR despite Meta’s dominance. Now it has to show that smart glasses, AI services, VIVERSE and enterprise deployments can produce growth, not only stability at a much smaller scale.
