A frequent problem that countless people encounter is ending up with stains on white, bright and light-coloured clothing. Lighter garments are particularly susceptible to marks, especially if makeup accidentally gets smudged around the collar or even on the inside of the item.
Cleaning expert and TikTok personality Chantel Mila, widely recognised as Mama Mila, recently revealed some of her top tips to help you "work smarter, not harder". When it comes to stubborn makeup stains, you won't require any specialist cleaning products.
Instead, you can rely on a straightforward item that's most likely already sitting in your bathroom cabinet, reports the Express.
How to remove makeup stainsChantel's preferred stain remover is shaving foam. Simply apply a generous amount of shaving foam to the affected area of the garment, using a bristled brush to work the product into the stain.
Shaving cream can prove highly effective at tackling makeup stains as it contains surfactants and cleaning agents that help break down oils and pigments in the stains.
Allow the shaving cream to sit for a period of time, depending on the colour and size of the stain, gently work it in, then rinse and launder the white top as normal on its regular cycle.
It's also worth ensuring you're using a foam-based product rather than a shaving gel or cream-based alternative. The latter options will not contain the same active ingredients required to effectively tackle stains.

As it contains surfactants and emulsifiers, these components help to lift and break down stains by trapping dirt and grime within the foam. Surfactants are the principal cleaning agents in shaving foam, which assist in loosening dirt particles.
Utilising a foam helps to extract dirt particles from the fabric of the garment, capturing them and making them considerably simpler to remove. The specialists at Kind Laundry confirmed that shaving foam can serve as an alternative cleaning solution.
They said: "Shaving cream is an effective and gentle way to remove foundation stains from clothes, thanks to its ability to break down oils and pigments without damaging delicate fabrics."
The specialists suggested leaving the shaving foam to rest on the stain for between five to ten minutes, before rinsing with cold water. For more stubborn makeup stains, however, the shaving foam should be left to sit for up to 20 minutes.
Better Homes & Gardens recommended using standard white shaving foams, while avoiding shaving gels and creams, as these lack the active ingredients required to eliminate the stains.
The specialists trialled the method on dark lipstick, red nail polish, black coffee, olive oil, dry potting soil, and blue ink. They wrote: "Unfortunately, the results were unimpressive. While the coffee and olive oil stains had lightened, they were still present. The shaving cream did virtually nothing to lift the lipstick, nail polish, soil, and ink stains.
"Worse yet, the process of dabbing at the stains with a damp cloth caused some of them, notably the lipstick and coffee, to spread."
