Former Mayo footballer Lee Keegan has criticised Joe Brolly's analysis as 'bulls**t nonsense'.
Andy Moran's side have defied expectations - except Keegan's - en route to the All-Ireland final.
Most pundits didn't fancy Mayo's chances against Louth in last week's semi-final.
Following Mayo's comprehensive victory over Louth, Brolly wrote in the Sunday Independent that Moran's team faces inevitable disappointment, 'as usual'.
"Mayo, for whom disaster lurks round every corner," Brolly stated in his column. "One would not have been surprised if a grand piano had fallen on Kobe McDonald's head as he left the hotel on the morning of the game."
Brolly, who now lives in Mayo after marrying Knockmore native Laurita Blewitt, watched from the stands at Croke Park and acknowledged being caught up in the emotion.
He wrote: "At the final whistle, we embraced - I'm only human - and promised ourselves that this year would be different. Of course it won't be."
The remarks have upset many in Mayo, with RTE analyst Keegan, who won Footballer of the Year ten years ago, responding sharply.
"That dismissive attitude seems to be relentless when it comes to Mayo," he wrote in his RTE column.
"I can't help but think it explains why so many pundits were tipping Louth last week (just the 17 points in the difference in the end, was it? )".
"Of course the same evening, we were treated to more bulls**t nonsense in the Sunday Independent from a Knockmore resident.
"It's good to see the same man hasn't lost any confidence after his column earlier this year when he was telling us that Donegal were champions-elect and saying that Jack O'Connor was out of his depth. It's all pantomime stuff anyway."
Brolly has an extensive track record of questioning Mayo's mentality on the biggest occasions, and is well accustomed to clashing with Keegan.
Keegan, in his capacity as an RTÉ pundit - a position Brolly was removed from in 2019 - previously issued an apology on Twitter after naming a man of the match on television several hours earlier.
Derry 1993 All-Ireland winner Brolly said that he "nearly vomited" after Keegan tweeted to apologise back in 2023.
Keegan had chosen Roscommon's Ciaráin Murtagh as Man of the Match, with numerous observers believing Galway's Damien Comer would have been a more suitable selection following the Connacht semi-final.
Keegan posted on Twitter that evening, acknowledging he had made an incorrect decision.
Brolly responded on social media, stating: "It is a perfect snapshot of the falseness and eagerness to please/play safe that has infected the RTÉ studio, where everyone is looking over their shoulder.
"By the time I was sacked, a lot had changed. There was no loyalty. No sense of integrity. No camaraderie. Colm O'Rourke and Pat Spillane soldiered on for a while, but I think they hated it as it was clear they were no longer wanted. Too opinionated. Too passionate. Too prone to say things they actually meant.
"What is happening now in the public broadcaster's studio is a dystopia," Brolly continued before describing the programme as a "national embarrassment.
"If Lee wants to apologise to anyone, he should apologise to the nation."
