Iranian member of parliament and former foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Wednesday called for Tehran to invade a US military base in the Middle East, kidnap American troops and hold them hostage in Iran.

“My proposal is that we launch a ground attack on one of the US bases in the region, capture 100 Americans and bring them to Iran,” Mottaki said, according to Iranian media.

Mottaki’s call for a ground assault comes after President Trump declined to rule out America’s own ground invasion, with his administration previously suggesting US troops could be deployed to take Iran’s Kharg Island

Mottaki’s latest threats echoed his call earlier this month for Iran to take “vengeance” both in the region and internationally for the death of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The comment comes as tensions escalate between Washington and Tehran after Trump re-established the US blockade on Iranian ports on Tuesday and US forces continue airstrikes across Iran.

Mottaki was among the lawmakers who slammed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as a “deception plan” that should not be honored.

About 180 lawmakers in Tehran agreed on Tuesday that Iran should treat the memorandum as null and void amid the latest US airstrikes, Iran International reported.

The US continued to bombard Iran’s military targets on Wednesday, with the strikes focused against Tehran’s facilities threatening the Strait of Hormuz.

The Islamic republic retaliated with missile and drone strikes against the US Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain, as well as other American military facilities in Kuwait and Jordan.
