New Delhi: Recruitment process for filling up of more than 1.83 lakh vacancies in central government has been initiated, top officials informed a parliamentary panel.

Sources said members of the committee laid stress on the need for additional safeguards in the wake of recent examination paper leaks and suggested exploring the option of computer-based tests.

Top officials from the department of personnel and training (DoPT) and Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) briefed the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice chaired by BJP MP Brij Lal.

During discussions, some members suggested that UPSC should make public the final answer key immediately after the examination instead of releasing it only after the declaration of results. However, UPSC officials argued that such a move could trigger litigation and potentially disrupt the tightly scheduled Civil Services Examination cycle. Members also suggested that candidates should have the option to see their evaluated answer sheets.

Officials informed the panel that the recruitment process has been initiated for 1,83,595 vacancies across the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), UPSC and Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).

The vacancies cover a broad spectrum of central government, defence, police, engineering, technical and railway posts, with some examinations already held and others currently underway.
