Kia is recalling 20,563 units of the popular Telluride in Canada and another 462,869 models in the U.S. due to a possible fire risk while the vehicle is being driven or parked. The vehicles were previously recalled in 2024 for the same issue, but according to the recall report sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the repair wasn’t done correctly, and therefore, this new recall replaces the previous one. Note that as of this writing, Transport Canada has not issued a similar re-recall for Canadian owners; however, we expect that to be updated soon, as the previous recall can be found here.

For Telluride SUVs from the 2020 to 2024 model years, the slide knob for the front power seats can stick. If this happens, the power seat motor will continuously try to keep working, which can cause the motor to overheat and potentially start a fire. Kia notes that owners may be able to identify this issue, though, as they would experience the knob sticking, which could mean either the seat won’t adjust despite turning the knob; or the seat continues to move when the knob is released. Additionally, owners may notice a burning smell or smoke from under the seat.

Owners will be notified by mail in August and asked to bring their vehicle to a Kia dealership. Note that this recall replaces the previous one, and those who had their vehicle repaired during the previous recall will still need this current to have the issue repaired correctly. The remedy includes the dealer installing an electronic fuse assembly, free of charge. Until the repair is completed, Kia is advising owners to park outside and away from structures.
