ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) have agreed to maintain an open line of communication to improve the regulatory and accountability frameworks of the country.
The decision was taken during a meeting between NAB Chairman Lt Gen Nazir Ahmed (retd) and Chairman CCP Farid Ahmed Tarar here on Wednesday.
The meeting also expressed the resolve to promote cooperation and teamwork between the two institutions to encourage a culture of accountability and fair economic competition, according to an official statement issued here.
Tarar informed the head of the anti-graft body regarding the core mandate and ongoing efforts of the commission. He said that the CCP is dedicated to ensuring free competition in all spheres of commercial and economic activity to enhance economic efficiency and protect consumers from anti-competitive practices, such as abuse of dominant position, prohibited agreements, and deceptive marketing.
The NAB chairman said that his organization recognizes the CCP as a vital pillar in ensuring market transparency and emphasized that the NAB is prepared to extend its support to the commission in its mission to eliminate illicit market practices. Both organizations share a common objective of safeguarding the economic interests of the state and its citizens by ensuring that public and commercial processes remain free from corruption and collusion, he said.
