The alleged incident happened in Allendale Road, Ormesby

An attempted kidnap arrest has been made following reports that a man tried to grab two little girls in Ormesby, Cleveland Police has confirmed. The force issued a public appeal following the incident, which happened on Allendale Road at around 3.45pm on Monday, July 13.

Officers received a report that a man had approached the youngsters, aged five and six, and tried to grab them by the wrist. When they refused, the man tried to entice them, and they managed to run away.

Cleveland Police has confirmed a 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap. He remains in police custody on Wednesday morning, July 15.

Acting Sergeant Donnelly from Greater Eston Neighbourhood Team, said on Tuesday before the arrest: “This incident will understandably have caused some concern for our communities. We have carried out a number of enquiries already, including speaking with the victims, the local school, CCTV enquiries and having officers speaking to people in the local area.

“We have a high visibility, uniformed presence in the area [on Tuesday].”
