The World Cup is well and truly underway, with a number of NFL stadiums hosting some of the world’s biggest national soccer teams.

MetLife Stadium will host the final on 19 July as the remaining sides battle it out to book their spot for the game in New Jersey.

The countdown is also on ahead of the 2026 NFL season getting underway, with week one kicking off in early September.

As the Seattle Seahawks look to retain the Super Bowl, NFL Analysis has taken a look into comparing some of the World Cup teams to their closest matches in the NFL.

Seattle Seahawks – Argentina

Let’s kick it off with the Seahawks! Mike Macdonald’s men are hoping to run it back this year after securing their second Super Bowl victory in February.

This can be compared to Argentina, who entered this summer’s World Cup as the reigning champions.

Argentina boast the star talent of Lionel Messi, whose magical feet can be translated into some of the staggering plays made by Jaxon Smith-Njigba last season.

It must be stressed that Seattle have a much younger roster than Argentina do, but the reigning champions have to be recognised.

Both Seattle and Argentina have a good chance of going back-to-back, but neither are the outright favourites to get their hands on the trophy.

Los Angeles Rams – France

There’s only one team to move this along to and that is Seattle’s NFC West rivals, the Los Angeles Rams.

A star-studded roster and the clear favourites for this season’s Super Bowl, Sean McVay’s side can only be compared to France.

With the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue, Les Bleus boast an electric offense.

France’s stacked offense is only matched by their defense, with the likes of Arsenal’s William Saliba and Dayot Upamecano proving one of the strongest center-back pairings in the competition.

The Rams made the trade for Myles Garrett on top of their trades for Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson; just like France, it feels like the trophy is theirs to lose.

Green Bay Packers – Brazil

The Green Bay Packers not only match Brazil’s famous colours, but they also mark one of the biggest underperformers over recent years.

You have to go back to 2011 for the last time the Packers got their hands on the Lombardi trophy, with Brazil’s last World Cup triumph all the way back in 2002.

Aaron Rodgers led the Packers to their last Super Bowl back in 2011, with Brazil also seriously underwhelming their fans since their last victory.

Victory over Japan in the Round of 32 has kept Brazil alive in the World Cup, but they look a shadow of some of the great sides from their past.

Dallas Cowboys – England

Although the Dallas Cowboys have won considerably more in their history than England, the overriding feeling of disappointing their fans makes this a perfect match.

No matter what happens, it always starts off as ‘our year’ before quickly leading to frustration among the supporters.

There is also the narrative of both sets of supporters not having the best of reputations with the other fan bases across their respective competitors.

The Cowboys have not won the Super Bowl since 1995 and England’s only World Cup win came all the way back in 1966.

Maybe this year will finally be their year

Kansas City Chiefs – Spain

Giants of the sport and consistently one of the favourites to win the prize at the end.

The Kansas City Chiefs did not enjoy their 2025 season, but they will undoubtedly be heading into this upcoming season as one of the favourites to lift the Lombardi.

Patrick Mahomes is capable of winning a game on his own and the same can be said about Spain’s forward Lamine Yamal.

Make no mistake about it, the Chiefs may not quite boast as strong of a roster as the Rams, but – just like Spain – you can guarantee they will be in and around it when it comes to the backend of the competition.

San Francisco 49ers – Germany

Germany have lifted the World Cup four times and the San Francisco 49ers have been crowned Super Bowl champions five times.

These are two of the historic teams in their respective competitions, but they are not quite what they were.

In the Round of 32, Germany were shockingly eliminated from the World Cup by Paraguay.

Heading into the season, questions surround the 49ers and whether their Super Bowl window has now passed, having finished third in the NFC West last season.

Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey could offer Kyle Shanahan some hope, but they risk being seriously underwhelming due to their ageing roster.

Jacksonville Jaguars – United States

Don’t get it twisted, the United States are not expected to get their hands on the World Cup trophy, but they are showing significant progress under Mauricio Pochettino.

Just like the USMNT, the Jacksonville Jaguars are developing nicely under head coach Liam Coen.

The Jags have one of the youngest rosters in the NFL and look set up to continue their development over the coming years.

A team to watch over the coming years…

New England Patriots – Scotland

Just to make this clear, this selection has got nothing to do with the comparative ability of these two teams.

The New England Patriots deserve a lot more respect when it comes to acknowledging their past than comparing them to Scotland.

But how can we not give the Scots a shoutout for what they brought to the city of Boston over their two-week spell in Massachusetts?

No Scotland, no party!
