Dieses Album enthält ausschließlich Erstaufnahmen von Werken des 1951 geborenen amerikanischen Komponisten Larry Lipkis.

Der Zyklus Pierrot and Friends besteht aus vier Commedia dell’arte-Stücken, die in sehr farbiger und prägnanter Musik die Charaktere  Pierrot, Columbina, Innamorata und Harlequin musikalisch beschreiben. Die feinfühlig und fast zärtlich formulierte Musik zeigt Lipkis’ Zuneigung für sein Sujet. Als Soloinstrumente hat Lipkis das Fagott für Pierrot ausgewählt, die Geige für Columbina, die Flöte für Innamorata und schließlich die Posaune für Harlequin.

Diese Klangfantasie und die viele guten Ideen machen das rund 70 Minuten dauernde vierteilige Werk zu einem großen Hörvergnügen, dies umso mehr als das Orchester aus Lviv die  Musik wirklich keck und auf hohem Niveau interpretiert.

This album features exclusively world premiere recordings of works by the American composer Larry Lipkis, born in 1951.

The cycle ‘Pierrot and Friends’ consists of four Commedia dell’arte pieces that musically depict the characters Pierrot, Columbina, Innamorata, and Harlequin through highly colorful and evocative music.

The music, composed with sensitivity and an almost tender touch, reveals Lipkis’s affection for his subject. As solo instruments, Lipkis chose the bassoon for Pierrot, the violin for Columbina, the flute for Innamorata, and finally the trombone for Harlequin.

This sonic fantasy, coupled with the many excellent ideas, makes this 70-minute, four-part work a real joy to listen to — all the more so because the Lviv Orchestra performs the music with such verve and skill.
