EMERYVILLE — Sutter Health launched its billion-dollar plan for a massive new East Bay campus with a string of real estate deals valued at well over $400 million for properties in Emeryville.

Sutter Bay Hospitals and Alta Bates Summit Medical Center teamed up to purchase seven parcels for a total of $450 million in the vicinity of 53rd Street where it intersects with Hollis Street, Chiron Way and Horton Street, according to documents filed on Feb. 19 with the Alameda County Recorder’s Office.

The acquired parcels are part of Sutter Health’s plan to construct a vast new campus in Emeryville that will feature a regional destination ambulatory care complex and new medical center.

“Our Emeryville campus project represents one of the most significant investments we’re making across our system over the next decade,” said Sutter Health CEO Warner Thomas.

According to documents from two Alameda County public records agencies, here are some details of the sites that the Sutter Health affiliates bought:

— $170 million for an office building at 5555 Hollis St.

— $156 million for an office building at 5300 Chiron Way.

— $90 million for a parking structure site at 4563 Horton St.

— $18 million for a vacant lot at 1400 53rd St. that will be the location of the future medical center.

— $14.5 million for an empty site at the corner of Hollis Street and Stanford Avenue.

— $750,000 for a site near Horton Street and 53rd St.

— $750,000 for the Hollis Green Park at 5317 Hollis St.

Sutter Health’s new medical center would have an initial capacity of up to 200 beds with room for future expansion, according to the health care provider. The new medical campus is slated to total about 1.3 million square feet.

The Sutter Health complex in Emeryville will offer outpatient services at the two existing office buildings on Hollis Street and Chiron Way. Acute care services will be provided at the new medical center at 1400 53rd St.

The Sutter Emeryville campus will also offer medical office space and parking at an existing 1,992-space parking garage.

“This plan ensures our East Bay patients have seamless access to the full spectrum of Sutter’s integrated services,” said Sutter East Bay Medical Group CEO Arzou Ahsan.

These will include “primary and specialty outpatient care, imaging, lab and diagnostic services, ambulatory surgery, urgent care, and inpatient services,” Ahsan added.

The East Bay endeavors by Sutter Health are the health care organization’s latest push to create a major new medical services hub in the Bay Area.

In the South Bay, Sutter Health launched an $800 million plan that would create a vast medical services hub in two Santa Clara campuses. The sites are on Mission College Boulevard near Great America Parkway, just north of U.S. Highway 101.

The Santa Clara project would consist of 1 million square feet of medical sites in what are currently four empty office buildings.
