Swedish designer Love Hultén has created Magicos-2, a custom double-neck synthesizer guitar inspired by the prism featured on Pink Floyd’s iconic album cover for ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’. Commissioned by a private client, the instrument combines custom electronics, modular synthesis, and sculptural design within a triangular body that transforms a familiar graphic into a fully playable musical device. Designed as both a performance instrument and collectible object, Magicos-2 continues Hultén’s exploration of handcrafted electronic devices that merge contemporary technology with retro-futuristic aesthetics.

Built around an equilateral triangle, the instrument features two extended playing arms equipped with fretboard-style control surfaces. Each arm houses an independent synthesis engine, with a 1010music Tangerine module on one side and a 1010music Lemondrop module on the other.

The dual configuration allows performers to control separate sound sources simultaneously, producing layered melodies, ambient textures, drones, and evolving soundscapes. Rather than functioning as a conventional guitar, Magicos-2 operates as a hybrid instrument that combines synthesis, performance, and object design.

detachable effects module expands sonic possibilities

Attached beneath the triangular body, a detachable trapezoidal base contains the instrument’s effects section. The unit incorporates a Walrus Audio Lore pedal for ambient processing and reverse reverb alongside a Collision Devices TARs pedal that introduces distortion and harmonic coloration. The modular arrangement allows the effects section to be separated from the main body for transport and maintenance. At the center of the base, an illuminated rose quartz pyramid serves as a visual focal point, reinforcing the instrument’s geometric composition.

Known for producing custom electronic instruments inspired by gaming culture, science fiction, and vintage technology, Hultén approaches each project as both a functional device and a design object. Magicos-2 follows the same philosophy, combining precision electronics with carefully crafted physical form.

Nine amber-colored controls punctuate the monochromatic white surface, while the instrument’s sharp geometry references the prism that inspired its design. Part sculpture, part synthesizer, and part performance instrument, Magicos-2 demonstrates how contemporary musical tools can occupy the space between technology, craftsmanship, and collectible design.
