Toronto Police say two people are dead and multiple others are injured following a mass shooting incident in the area of St. Clair Ave. W. and Arlington Ave. Saturday night.

Police said on social media that they received reports of an active shooter at approximately 8:10 p.m.

The Salsa on St. Clair festival, which has closed down the street from Winona Dr. to Christie St., was taking place in the area.

In a subsequent update, police said six individuals were found with gunshot wounds and two people were pronounced dead at the scene.

A police source told the Toronto Sun that two males were fatally shot at the festival.

In addition, a 40-year-old man, 19-year-old woman and another female were among those who were injured.

Police also recovered two firearms at the scene and a vehicle was also seen leaving the area, the source said.

Premier ‘devastated by senseless violence’

Premier Doug Ford shared a statement online that he was “devastated by the senseless violence” at the festival.

“My thoughts are with the victims, their families and everyone affected,” he wrote on his X account. “Thank you to Toronto Police and our first responders for responding to this horrific incident.

“The person responsible must be caught, brought to justice and spend the rest of their life behind bars.”

Other residents reacted to the shocking news as well.

“I have seen the reports of an active shooter at Salsa on St Clair and am mortified,” Gabe Blanc, who is running for Toronto City Council in Ward 11 University–Rosedale, wrote on X.

Chow ‘disgusted’ by violence

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the violence.

“I am disgusted and angered by the shooting at Salsa on St. Clair tonight,” the mayof said via X.

“My thoughts are with the families, friends and communities of those who were injured or tragically passed away.

“This was a reckless, despicable act of violence at a crowded festival. I will ensure Toronto Police have every resource they need to find those responsible, and they will keep working around the clock to get guns off our streets.”
