An STO Building Group spokesperson said the fatal jobsite accident was not due to a project safety violation.

Structure Tone International, the unit of New York City-based global contractor and construction manager STO Building Group, has confirmed a July 9 fatality believed to be a project worker who fell from its building interior renovation project in London. Neither Metropolitan Police nor the company identified the victim's name, employer or occupation as of story posting on July 10.

A police spokesperson said the afternoon incident involved a male in his 30s who was pronounced dead at the scene in London's Mayfair section, at the intersection of Berkeley Street and Stratton Street, according to media reports.

In a statement to UK industry publication Building, also confirmed to ENR, city-based Structure Tone said it is “aware of a tragic incident that occurred at our project site on Stratton Street in London today” and that the company is “fully cooperating with the relevant authorities as they establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The police and STO Building Group declined further comment on the cause of the incident, but it did not “involve a construction health and safety violation,” as outlined in the police investigation, according to the company. A further Metropolitan Police statement is set for release July 13.

Structure Tone International is a principal contractor for refurbishment and fit out of the 50 Berkeley / 50 Stratton Street office development, part of a larger commercial retrofit and office extension of two interconnected buildings managed by London-based real estate and asset manager Berkeley Estate Asset Management.
