Readers react to the news that Keir Starmer is to step down as prime minister, with Andy Burnham his most likely successorWhat an enormous betrayal. A whole load of selfish MPs, opportunist cabinet members and self-seeking lightweights have destroyed the work of a decent, rational and honest man and prime minister. As a member of the Labour party since 1959, for the first time I am profoundly disappointed by our collective behaviour. We are now going to have a drastic change of government.Ministers will be changed, policies will change, but will have no time to mature. After two more years, the country will move to the chaotic right. Nothing will have been achieved by this mess. Andy Burnham, Wes Streeting and Angela Rayner, and their turncoat supporters, will all have played a part in sending the Labour party into the political wilderness for a generation to come.
