Is Microsoft alllowing AI to write these patches or what?
I just checked.. this is the magic. "Malware Protection Engine version and it’s at or above 1.1.26060.3008, then RoguePlanet is fully mitigated on your device."
Also known as Samba, right?
No Samba is an open source implementation of SMB/CIFS.
I see code quality remains an issue at Microsoft. Maybe they should stop firing people.
Oh, and Microsoft, you should have just paid the man, upsetting folks who find zero days in core products isn't really a bright move.

Sorry, in core security products.
NightmareEclipse and Microsoft have been locked in a heated dispute since at least May, when the researcher said Microsoft silently patched a vulnerability the researcher had privately reported. In the weeks following, the researcher released details and exploit code for a handful of vulnerabilities before Microsoft had a chance to patch them. Microsoft, in turn, has publicly railed against the researcher for “not responsibly” disclosing the vulnerabilities and made a veiled reference to the possibility of pursuing legal action. After a public backlash, Microsoft relented and vowed no such legal action would occur.
The tl;dr from what I gather is NightmareEclipse reported multiple vulnerabilities to Microsoft through Microsoft's bug bounty program, and Microsoft just didn't pay NightmareEclipse at all. That's why NightmareEclipse is so upset.
Slight tangent: every modern operating system has the potential to flip out if their primary disk/volume is full. Many programs, too. This doesn’t combine well with the current high price-per-gigabyte on storage.
Would be nice if software engineers would include a failsafe for this situation more often.

In Microsoft Defender Antivirus (on Windows 10) I don't see "Malware Protection" but, instead, have a "Security intelligence version" as pictured here:
Am I looking in the wrong place here?

Fucking pay the man Microsoft . Come on. Not doing so is super shitty and they know it .

I’ve gotten into the habit of placing ballast files to speed up recovery.
The next phase of escalation? NightmareEclipse sells to the dark web in secret. Several dozen nefarious groups launch massive worldwide attacks against Microsoft customers. This is not a war Microsoft can win... Just pay the dang bug bounty!

Microsoft is allowing probabilistic machine learning to write them, validate them and verify them.
The holy trinity of bad engineering.

I love you for this comment.
Patch for Windows Defender 0-day could allow attackers to fill hard disk
Minor quibble.
The words of the headline mean that the patch could fill the hard disk.
Perhaps "Windows Defender 0-day which could allow attackers to fill hard disk has been patched."
Still, it's frightening to think that attackers could intentionaly write ~1.5 gigabytes of data on my drive.
The words of the headline mean that the patch could fill the hard disk.
As do the words of the first sentence of the body text. Very bad phrasing.
