iOS 27’s new Trust Insights feature flags suspicious behavior during calls, texts and payments to help stop scams before they happen.

Scammers are tricky, but your iPhone will soon get a lot less gullible, thanks to a new iOS 27 feature called Trust Insights. It watches for the tell-tale signs you’re being coached through a scam — and steps in before you actually lose money.
The system runs quietly in the background regardless of what you are doing on your iPhone. If it thinks your behavior looks suspicious, your iPhone will flag it, slow you down, or make you verify twice before you go through with it.
While Trust Insights didn’t get a flashy keynote moment during WWDC26 in June, it will be one of the most useful things Apple ships this fall.
Tech support scams, fake-authority calls and “family emergency” schemes are all over the place these days. And they are only getting harder to spot as AI voice cloning becomes cheaper and more convincing.
Social engineering scams prove especially hard to catch, because you’re the one doing all the typing and tapping, with someone else whispering a scammy script in your ear. Trust Insights tries to detect that by analyzing your interaction patterns, timing, context and on-device sensor data.
If Apple’s system thinks something seems off, it will assign a medium or high risk level. Following this, the iPhone app you are using will respond either by showing a warning banner, a short delay, or an extra identity check before any payment is made.
Since scammers mostly work from scripts, the moment an app introduces friction they didn’t plan for, they must improvise. This is exactly when people usually tend to notice something’s not right.
Apple says Trust Insights will never see the actual contents of your messages, email or photos. Instead, it will look at behavioral signals, delete any raw data immediately afterward, and send a single output value to Apple’s servers.
The value will then be weighed against unusual activity on your Apple Account before a final call is made. It’s a good compromise, and offers real protection without your iPhone becoming a surveillance tool.
At launch, Trust Insights will sort activity into five buckets: payments, account changes, communication such as messages, resource-heavy requests like AI processing and an “other” category for things that don’t fit in the above slots.
That catch-all could be a sign Apple is still figuring out where the edges of the system are. To do so, it is also asking developers to report back about things that fall through the cracks.
Apple says users can disable Trust Insights, but with a cooldown period before the changes take effect. It’s a deliberate design, as scammers won’t be able to force you to turn off Trust Insights mid-call. If you’ve ever heard how these calls go, this is usually the first step.
Google already rolled out an on-device scam-detection feature for Pixel phones, but is catching up in a way that would protect a lot of people who’d never think of questioning a call that sounds like their child, elderly parent, etc.
Trust Insights is currently still on the developer side, and it will only be as good as the apps that actually build in the feature. We expect to see more information about this once the iOS 27 public beta lands later this month.
