Gorham junior Hunter Finck is a future pitcher at the University of Alabama and the Gatorade Maine Baseball Player of the Year. But, due to pitch-count rules, he wasn’t eligible to pitch in the biggest game of the year, the Class A championship against Bangor. Finck, though, isn’t Gorham’s only high-quality hurler. Miles Brenner pitched seven strong innings, and Wyatt Washburn four quality innings of relief to help the Rams beat Bangor 3-2 in 11 innings.
Finck did his part, too, with a game-high three hits, including an RBI single that gave Gorham the lead in the top of the 11th.
Gorham, the Class A champion, finishes the season ranked first in the Varsity Maine baseball poll. This is the Rams’ fourth straight week at No. 1. Class B champion Fryeburg is third, while repeat Class C champ Monmouth ranks seventh.
Noble is No. 10 after reaching the Class A South final as the 10th seed in the region. The Knights finish the season with a 10-9-1 record, but during the postseason, they defeated Massabesic (the only team to beat Gorham this year), South Portland (which spent several weeks atop the Varsity Maine poll and was No. 2 in the most recent poll) and Cheverus.
This is the final Varsity Maine baseball poll of the 2026 season. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
1. Gorham (9) 90
