Police have recovered the body of a missing six-year-old who wandered off from his sister's Georgia apartment.

Ramon Jett, who goes by RJ, vanished without a trace from the Sutter Lake Apartments complex on Webb Road in Riverdale on Sunday morning, Clayton County police said. 

On Monday, authorities said they had found his body in a nearby pond, according to WSBTV. 

His family believes he walked out of his sister's apartment around 11am.

His mother Ashleigh Harris woke up from a nap around 1pm and realized he was gone, she told WSB-TV. 

'Very hard not knowing where to look. We've searched everything and just hoping somebody sees him,' Harris told the outlet. 'We're just praying for good news.' 

RJ was last seen wearing a green shirt, camouflage pants and white socks. He was described as being 3 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing about 40 lbs. 

The little boy is nonverbal, which officers say may make him unable to seek help or communicate. His family says he has autism and suffers from ADHD.

The boy's mother was reportedly at work when he wandered off from the apartment.

The residence, which is not RJ's typical home, was not equipped with the same safety locks that his permanent home has. 

'From my understanding this is not their home,' Clayton County police Major Frank Thomas told WSB-TV. 

'They were staying here momentarily, but at normal home they had high locks on doors so he just couldn't open regular handle. But the home here had safety door handles which he was able to manipulate.' 

She warned that he can be a 'little standoffish' and urged anyone who sees him to call 911 immediately.

'Call him by his nickname. That might make him more welcome,' she said during an interview with FOX 5 Atlanta. 

Harris added that her son loves numbers, letters and nursery rhymes, and is 'drawn to stuff like that.'

Clayton County police appealed for locals to check their backyards before Monday's grim discovery. 

Search and rescue crews were also seen out on nearby Joy Lake on Sunday looking for the boy.
