HMRC has launched an investigation into OnlyFans stars using the platform to rake in millions of pounds - with one household name reportedly forced to cough up more than £20,000.

Celebrities on the site include Love Island star Megan Barton Hanson, who was previously believed to be raking in as much as £800,000 a month on the X-rated site.

She was even able to use her massive earnings to buy her 'dream home' back in 2020.

Other British stars who use OnlyFans to top up their income include ex-Strictly Come Dancy and Bake Off contestant John Whaite and model Lottie Moss

It is understood the tax authority in the UK has contacted OnlyFans to find out the earnings of their best paid stars.

There is no suggestion that Meghan, John or Lottie are part of HMRC's probe.

A source told The Sun: 'Celebs have been using OnlyFans to rake in huge amounts of money.

'HMRC is aware how much money these people are making because they brag about it — and now they're making sure that tax and VAT is being correctly paid.

'One person who makes a large amount of money from OnlyFans was hit by a tax bill well over £20,000.'

A spokesperson for HMRC said they engage in a 'variety of approaches' to ensure that everyone 'pays what they owe'.

Glamour model Megan previously declared she is proud to be on OnlyFans and said she 'can't believe how well she's done' since her stint on 2018's Love Island.

The reality star gushed: 'Doing the site has definitely helped me buy my dream house and it's given me all the money for new furniture.'

The media personality insisted one of OnlyFans' benefits is that she can 'take the power back' with the content she posts.

The influencer also shared that women reach out to her for advice and said the money she receives is 'great and amazing'.

The Daily Mail has contacted Megan's, John's and Lottie's reps for comment.

Meanwhile in the US, influencer Sophie Rain recently claimed that she made $43million in her first year on OnlyFans, making her one of the biggest money makers in the site's history.

Other top creators include YouTuber Corinna Kopf, who earned $67million in roughly three years before 'retiring' from OnlyFans last October.

Last year, the CEO of OnlyFans revealed that the company has paid out $20billion to its creators since its inception in 2016.

CEO Keily Blair was speaking at the Bloomberg Screentime conference in Los Angeles when she revealed the incredible figure.

'Porn is free on the internet. I think the reason why people pay for OnlyFans is because they want to engage with those particular creators,' Ms Blair said.

'It's because of the ability to customize as well as to ask for a specific content.'

She continued: 'Everyone assumes it's sexy content. Some of it sexy content and we're very happy with that, we're an inclusive platform, and we're that way for a reason.

'We believe it's very important for adult content creators to have a safe space, to be able to monetize and also to be able to do that alongside other content creators.

'We're all adults, we're all grown ups, we can all choose what content we subscribe to.'
