Standard tests put students from LDCs at a significant disadvantage, and this has been widely reported in the mainstream media and is known to practitioners. English tests impose a high burden on potential students, and the report confirms this. It should surprise no one from in the field. It's true that Duolingo is a sponsor, and indeed this fact should be weighed into the discussion. However, their propriety test (DET) is a fraction of the cost of incumbants and alleviates the burden of the test taker, at least to some extent. Could it be that the DET is part of the solution?
