Ed Miliband has splashed millions of pounds of taxpayers’ cash on pushing green heat pumps.
The Energy Secretary spent more than £2.4million on the ‘Warm and Fuzzy’ advertising blitz in just one year in a bid to promote government grants.
The sum includes £709,000 on television advertising, £580,000 on digital campaigns, and nearly £400,000 on radio and audio promotions, figures via a freedom of information request reveal.
A further £350,000 went on video-on-demand placements and £303,000 on online videos while £25,000 was spent on outdoor billboards and £50,000 on door-drop leaflets delivered to households across the country, in the financial year 2024/2025.
The campaign is part of Mr Miliband’s attempt to persuade households to replace gas boilers with electric heat pumps under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which offers grants of up to £7,500 per installation.
Tory energy spokesman Claire Coutinho said: ‘Miliband’s Net Zero fanaticism means he’s throwing taxpayers’ money at electric heat pump giveaways at the same time as he’s making the electricity they need to run eye-wateringly expensive. This is mad.’

Before the taxpayer-funded grants, an air-source system costs about £13,500 and a ground-source about £28,000. In comparison, gas boilers cost just £3,000.
The Department for Energy Security confirmed the £2.4million spend and said: ‘Decarbonising heating is one of the biggest challenges facing the UK in getting to Net Zero and heat pumps will play a key role to achieving our 2050 goal.’
