This weekend will see one of the most-hotly anticipated events in the UK sports calendar as Formula 1 comes to Silverstone. On Sunday (July 5), the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris and Max Verstappen will battle it out over 52 laps in the British Grand Prix.

Hamilton will feel at home as he returns to Silverstone, where he’s won a record nine times in his career. He last won in 2024 while still driving for Mercedes, before he joined Ferrari the following year.

Hamilton heads into the GP following last week’s Austrian Grand Prix, which saw the Ferrari driver finish fifth, while fellow Brit George Russell came in pole position. Red Bull’s Verstappen has had a mixed start to the season, currently sitting in seventh but coming off the back of a runner-up finish in Austria.

Norris was the winner at last year’s British GP as he secured pole on his way to winning his first Championship. There will be action taking place across the weekend as Silverstone is also hosting a Sprint race for the first time in 21 years.

It looks set to be dry conditions for the drivers with no rain forecast across the weekend, while temperatures are expected to be around the mid-20s. With that, here’s how to watch the British Grand Prix.

When is the British Grand Prix?

The British Grand Prix is taking place across the weekend of Friday, July 3, to Sunday, July 5. The Sprint is scheduled for 12pm on Saturday, with the Grand Prix itself due to get underway at 3pm on Sunday.

How to watch the British Grand Prix

The British Grand Prix will be broadcast on Sky Sports in the UK, meaning Formula 1 fans will need a Sky package if they want to tune in. These start at £35 per month for the Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, rising to £44 for the Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle.

Both options provide access to every practice, qualifier and race throughout the F1 season, while the latter also comes with 135 channels and free subscriptions to Netflix, HBO Max and Disney+. Existing Sky TV customers can add Sky Sports channels to their package from £20 per month.

The main thing to consider with Sky’s contracts is that they run for 24 months, during which time Sky states its prices ‘may change’. Alternatively, Channel 4 will also be broadcasting the British GP, with build-up from 1.30pm.

Elsewhere, Virgin Media also offers Sky Sports channels with its own Sport bundle. This comes with more than 200 channels, free Netflix and 362Mbps fibre broadband for £54.99 per month, but prices are set to rise to £58.99 from April 2027 and £62.99 from April 2028.

For those preferring to see the race in person, last-minute Silverstone tickets are still up for grabs – but they’re not cheap. Prices can fluctuate day by day but currently start at £1,410 per person when booking a VIP and hospitality package through Seat Unique.
