CD Projekt Red has officially announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, a brand-new expansion for its 2015 RPG. Cripes.
The new content is set to launch in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with Geralt of Rivia returning for another adventure. CD Projekt Red is co-developing the expansion with Fool’s Theory, the Polish studio currently working on The Witcher Remake.
Songs of the Past will be the third major expansion for The Witcher 3, following Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. That makes this a pretty significant return for one of the most acclaimed RPGs of the last decade, especially given that Blood and Wine launched all the way back in 2016.
For now, CD Projekt Red is keeping story details quiet. The announcement confirms that players will once again take on the role of Geralt, but there is no word yet on where the expansion is set, how large it will be, or whether any familiar characters beyond Geralt will appear.
The reveal appears to have arrived slightly earlier than planned. CD Projekt Red had been expected to discuss The Witcher 3 during an upcoming REDstreams broadcast, but the expansion was seemingly spotted ahead of time through the RED Launcher, leading to a speedy official announcement on Steam and social media.
The developer says more information on Songs of the Past will be shared later in summer 2026.
Fool’s Theory’s involvement is also notable. The studio has a direct connection to The Witcher series, both through its work on The Witcher Remake and because its team includes developers who previously worked on The Witcher 3. That should help ease some concerns about an external studio being involved in new content for such a beloved game.
CD Projekt Red is also currently working on The Witcher 4, which will put Ciri in the lead role. With Songs of the Past bringing Geralt back before then, Witcher fans now have two major returns to look forward to.
