One of the nation's biggest electric car public charging operators is slashing its prices by a quarter for the next three months.

Motor Fuel Group (MFG) EV Power has reduced its prices across all ultra-rapid charging sites by 25 per cent this summer, cutting the cost of plugging in from 79p to 59p/kWh for a three-month period.

The nationwide discount takes effect from July through until the end of September to 'make summer holiday journeys more affordable, and sustainable, for EV drivers', it said.

MFG EV Power, which is the UK's largest independent forecourt operator, says the 20p-per-kilowatt-hour (kWh) saving will put up to £6 back into drivers' pockets on a typical charge.

Its ultra-rapid chargers can add up to 100 miles of charge to an EV's battery in just 10 minutes.

The move makes MFG one of the cheapest ultra-rapid EV charging providers in the UK at a time when energy prices are going up by 13 per cent for the average household after the latest hike to the energy price cap from 1 July.

The 25 per cent summer price drop is in place across the MFG EV Power network, with chargers situated nationwide - from supermarkets to service stations.

The ultra-rapid chargers can power 150kW, 300kW, and up to 400kW, which makes the network one of the fastest charging options in the UK.

The 25 per cent price cut for the next three months comes as millions of Britons have been urged to submit energy meter readings to avoid paying higher bills than they need to following yesterday's 13 per cent hike to the price cap.

An estimated 5.3million households who are on a standard energy tariff and who do not have a smart meter have been urged to take action to avoid paying for energy they have already used at the new, more expensive rates that took effect from the start of the month.

Ofgem's price cap sets the maximum amount firms can charge homes on standard tariffs per unit of gas and electricity.

Households who pay via direct debit will see electricity charges rise from the current rate of 24.67p a kilowatt hour to 26.11p, while gas charges will rise from 5.74p a kWh to 7.33p.

Based on the new rates, the average gas and electricity bill will increase by £221 to £1,862 a year.

The jump has been largely driven by a spike in global energy wholesale prices caused by the Middle East conflict.

Martin Symes, EV Director, Motor Fuel Group: 'This summer price drop is our commitment to British EV drivers: we are putting you first, cutting our ultra-rapid charging rate to just 59p/kWh so that your summer journeys are cheaper, greener, and hassle-free.

'With thousands of chargers across the UK and now one of the lowest rapid charging prices in the country, there has never been a smarter time to go electric - now powered for less by MFG.'

The summer sale takes place across MFG's 600-location network and runs from 1 July through to 30 September

Where can you find an MFG ultra-rapid charger?

MFG EV ultra-rapid chargers, which are distinctive in their blue, green and white appearance, can be found nationwide.

MFG EV Power has over 2,000 bays across 600 locations - and all of its chargers operate on 100 per cent renewable energy.

The charging hubs are built at the same sites as its fuel forecourts.

MFG has also installed rapid EV charging bays across nearly 300 Morrisons supermarkets to make charging more accessible and convenient, so you can top up while you shop.

Other chargers are conveniently located at leading retail and food-to-go sites including Greggs, Pret A Manger, Burger King, Subway, and Costa.

All MFG points offer contactless credit or debit card payment, or Apple Pay or Android Pay.

There is also an EV Power app, which you can use to find charge points and start or stop charging sessions.
