In 2025, we saw the promise of AI for education become practice: Gemini for Education is now integrated into over 1,000 US higher education institutions, reaching more than 10 million students. We’ve heard from education leaders globally that our industry-leading AI – which is private, secure, and free of charge – is helping create transformative change.

With the partnership of education institutions around the world, we launched more than 150 features and updates to support teaching and learning, and the impact has been game-changing. In Northern Ireland, educators have been saving up to 10 hours per week. A leader in Mexico shared how Google AI tools helped educators complete a task in 20 minutes that used to take the whole weekend. And leaders and students in Asia and Australia showcased the many ways that they are bringing Gemini for Education into their day-to-day.

Gemini and NotebookLM: AI tools for education

Here are the top ways the education community is using Gemini for Education and NotebookLM:

• Building a deep understanding instead of just getting quick answers with Guided Learning
• Prepping for exams with personalized practice quizzes and study guides in Gemini Canvas and flashcards in NotebookLM
• Preparing for interviews with feedback on resumes and creating professional headshots with Nano Banana
• Drawing connections between materials with interactive visual Mind Maps in NotebookLM, making research and synthesis easier
• Creating visual explainers for presentations and group projects using Video Overviews and transforming written content into Audio Overviews for flexible, on-the-go learning
• Adding fresh ideas, relevant resources and differentiated activities to lessons with Gemini in Classroom, available free of charge for Google Workspace for Education users over 18
• Sharing interactive AI learning experiences for students using NotebookLM and Gems from their learning management system, through integrations with Google Classroom, Canvas by Instructure and PowerSchool Schoology Learning
• Producing polished, collaborative video content with Google Vids, using AI features like sample scripts and voiceovers to simplify creation ¹

ChromeOS and Google Classroom: New tools for teaching and learning

Educators are using new Chromebook and ChromeOS features to simplify management and bring instruction ideas to life:

• Guiding classroom focus and engagement with Class tools for managed Chromebooks, which enables teachers to share content to students' screens, check in on their work, and set their devices to explore, focus, or locked mode
• Boosting productivity and saving time by using AI-powered features like Quick Insert (for on-device image generation in lesson plans) and Text capture (to quickly extract information from screens) on new Chromebook Plus devices
• Maximizing existing teaching technology by using the Chromebox OPS, a plug-in device that upgrades interactive flat panel displays to seamlessly run on ChromeOS
• Extending device lifespan and security through enhanced ChromeOS Flex features that enable zero-touch enrollment and remote deployment
• Tackling the dynamic teaching environment with the next generation of Chromebook Plus devices— including the new Lenovo Chromebook Plus (14”, 10) device with a MediaTek Kompanio Ultra NPU for AI workflows — that include enhanced performance and AI features for educators

As Google Classroom continues to innovate as an LMS solution with AI-powered teaching and learning experiences, new tools that support data-driven instruction and personal learning are becoming favorites of educators worldwide. Here’s how they are using these new features:

• Gaining actionable insights on student progress with expanded Classroom analytics, plus piloting tagging and tracking assignments with learning standards
• Supporting literacy practice with more flexible ways to use Read Along in Classroom, from generating or uploading stories tailored to student needs to offering different reading modes

AI literacy: Resources for inspiration and practice

This year, we’ve equipped institutions, educators and students with AI literacy resources. In 2025, over 1 million educators, and students received Google for Education training on AI, with over 100,000 earning Gemini Certifications – all available free of charge on Google for Education’s revamped Learning Center. And educators have been getting hands on with ready-to-use AI prompts for teachers and 100+ ways to use Gemini in education.

We’re continuing to expand our offerings to meet the needs of younger learners with new AI literacy curricula for Be Internet Awesome and AI Quests, a game-based, code-free AI learning experience created by Google Research and the Stanford Accelerator for Learning that allows middle school students to step into the shoes of researchers and experience the AI lifecycle first hand.
