Co-engineered with Schneider-Kreuznach, the new lens combines a versatile 60-180mm focal range, a constant F2.8 aperture and an ultra-lightweight design of approximately 730g.
Designed for creators who want professional telephoto performance without the size and weight of traditional 70-200mm F2.8 lenses, the AF 60-180mm F2.8 FE offers the reach, speed and image quality needed for a wide range of real-world shooting situations, in a lightweight lens that’s easier to carry around. From portraits and weddings to travel, events, action and close-up details, the lens gives photographers and filmmakers the flexibility to move freely and capture more while carrying less.
Samyang says that “with its optimized 60-180mm range, the lens covers practical telephoto focal lengths while maintaining strong subject compression at the long end. The constant F2.8 aperture ensures consistent exposure throughout the zoom range and provides excellent control over depth of field, making it ideal for low-light environments, smooth background separation and video work without exposure shifts while zooming.”
The AF 60-180mm F2.8 FE also brings enhanced close-up capability to the telephoto zoom category. With a minimum focusing distance of 0.35m at the wide end and a maximum magnification of 0.26x, creators can get closer to subjects such as food, products, flowers and fine textures. This added versatility expands the lens beyond traditional telephoto use and makes it a practical all-round tool for both stills and video.
To support consistent image quality across different focusing distances, the lens features a Floating Focus System. This helps maintain sharpness from close focus to infinity and minimizes optical degradation, delivering reliable results across the frame. The optical construction consists of 17 elements in 14 groups, including 1 HR, 7 ED and 2 ASP elements, designed to reduce aberrations and produce sharp, clear images.
Autofocus is driven by a Linear STM motor, providing fast, precise and quiet focusing performance for both photography and video. The lens also includes an AF/MF switch for quick control, a smooth focus ring for manual adjustments, a zoom lock for secure transport and a USB port for convenient firmware updates.
Built for demanding shooting conditions the new lens features weather sealing to help protect against water droplets, light rain, snow and dust. Its newly developed high-strength material contributes to durability while maintaining a premium finish and low overall weight.
The AF 60-180mm F2.8 FE joins the AF 14-24mm F2.8 FE and AF 24-60mm F2.8 FE in Samyang’s Compact Zoom Series. Together, the three lenses provide seamless focal coverage from 14mm to 180mm with constant F2.8 performance in a compact, lightweight system.
The new AF 60-180mm F/2.8 Sony FE lens has a recommended selling price of $999,00 and pre-orders for the Rokinon version are now open, with the lens shipping next September.
