I was giving my motorbike a once-over today and cleaning it before presenting for MOT. I use iron fallout remover on my bike as it brings the wheels and engine up nice, quickly removing road filth and brake dust from the wheels and the front of the engine. I use Jennychem Iron-X but I've used iron-out in the past (which is a stronger solution but loads more expensive).

Anyway, I had to fill up my spray bottle so I stood it on my bench saw and poured some from the 20l drum into my pot and in doing so I managed to spill some on the table saw bed. After cleaning the bike (probably 20 minutes I went back, noticed the spillage and wiped it off with blue towel. magically, the brown stain that had always been on the table saw had disappeared to leave clean grey iron:

It works on UPVC window sills to get rid of the rust spots when you've been grinding in the back garden too. (Don't bother asking how I know that ).

Putting the vice in front of the window wasn’t my best idea…

Yes well after years of doing it infront of the kitchen with no issues, we had new kitchen glass fitted, and grinding dust burnt right into the new glass, a month or two old at most.
I believe I rotated the vice and grinder to avoid getting it up the new upvc door.

Do you dilute it or is it straight out of the bottle? & Then rinse off?

A Stanley Blade scraper with NEW blade removes the Grinding swarf from glass but not the crater,

The product? Straight from the bottle, leave for a few minutes then rinse off. It produces a bright purple runoff wherever it contancts iron particles. The Jennychem stuff I got because I can spray it from my pressure pump bottle dispenser where the iron out is too gloopy for that. Iron out comes with a trigger bottle but they don't last long and it's not easy to keep a consistent spray.

Its not ammonia, sodium summat or other, but it is quite pungent.

I'd be careful there because ots £100 direct from the supplier. Seems a bit scammy to me.

thats wishfull thinking .some half baked prat of a builder cut some cast guttering about 6 yards from my van and the wind blew it over never noticed till day after it knacked the white paint and ruined the screen burning the grit on to it

The stuff that turns purple when it reacts with iron is sodium thioglycolate.

Oxalic acid will also remove rust staining.

You can scrape the metal particles out of glass with a razor blade which makes it look a little better, but they leave a crater - the damage is permanent.
