Prime Video's The Greatest is the first authorised scripted series about boxing legend Muhammad Ali's life

Viewers have been treated to their first glimpse of an upcoming TV series centred on one of the most legendary sportsmen in history.

The Greatest is the first authorised scripted series chronicling the life of world champion boxer and campaigner Muhammad Ali.

Prime Video has recently unveiled a trailer offering a taste of the series, which shows the boxing icon, also known as Cassius Clay (portrayed by Jaalen Best), delivering self-affirmations before a mirror. The eight-episode series has been executive produced by the widow of the late boxing legend Lonnie Ali and Oscar winner Michael B. Jordan.

The Greatest will portray the life and career of Ali, concentrating on his time both within and beyond the ring, taking viewers from his youth through to his athletic achievements.

Viewers can anticipate witnessing some of the most pivotal moments from Ali's life in The Greatest, including his campaigning as part of the civil rights struggle and his close bond with Malcolm X, reports the Express.

A synopsis from Prime Video for The Greatest states: "The Greatest is an intimate exploration of the incomparable life of the boxing champion, humanitarian and global icon."

Alongside American Horror Stories and All American: Homecoming actor Best in the lead role, The Greatest also features Dana Gourrier of Raising Dion fame, Snowfall's Amin Joseph, Kai Parham, and Think Like A Man star Michael Ealy.

Power actor Omari Hardwick assumes the role of Ali's father Cassius Marcellus Clay Sr. and the performer recently shared the trailer on Instagram. He captioned the post: "Before there was Ali, there was Clay. Here's the first teaser for THE GREATEST, a new original series coming to Prime November 4.

"Within this legendary story....we are proud to bring you the collective of stories & characters that make up the TOTAL of the boy, the son, the brother, the man, the fighter, the EPIC human being."

He concluded: "And dear beautiful fans of mine & of ours....we hope you find this series as groundbreaking as we felt making it!".

Ali sadly passed away in 2016 at the age of 74, following a respiratory illness complicated by his Parkinson's disease. Yet his enduring legacy lives on, with many still regard him as the greatest boxer to have ever lived.

The Greatest will be released on Prime Video on November 4.
