Notice to Meta

The Union government’s decision to issue a notice to Meta over advertisements allegedly linked to child sexual abuse material deserves unequivocal public attention (Front page, July 6). Digital platforms that wield unprecedented influence over the dissemination of information cannot evade responsibility when their advertising ecosystems become conduits for content that exploits or endangers children. While technological complexity may make absolute prevention difficult, it cannot serve as a convenient alibi for regulatory complacency or corporate indifference.

This episode should serve as a reminder that the digital public sphere is not exempt from ethical accountability.

The “resilient city” is becoming a myth — when drainage networks are consistently overwhelmed, it is not an act of god; it is a failure of foresight. If our cities cannot survive the monsoon, our investments in high-speed connectivity will prove to be expensive mistakes. We must prioritise sustainable, climate-proof infrastructure in India before the next deluge causes irreversible damage to our urban centres.

The milestone highlights an ongoing debate over the country’s identity, with differing visions for what America represents. While the 1976 Bicentennial occurred amid the fallout of Vietnam and Watergate, the current deep-seated polarisation is rooted in a fundamental clash over basic historical truths, election integrity, and economic realities.

Portal bugs

There appear to be serious bugs in the TNREGINET portal (https://tnreginet.gov.in), preventing us from proceeding with document creation and registration. The issue persists across all major browsers, including Firefox and Chrome. A quick inspection of the browser console reveals several jQuery expression and XML parsing errors. We also noticed numerous active debugger statements in the code.
