This week’s roundup of roadworks either getting underway or already ongoing (July 6 - July 12), including Stokesley Road

Key roadworks in Middlesbrough this week:

1. A19 southbound at A1046 Portrack Interchange: Narrow lanes and 50 mph speed limit on southbound carriageway - introduced for safety reasons following damage to overbridge caused by a bridge strike on 2 July 2020. Continuous July 9, 2020 onwards (exact duration dependent on timescale for repairs to overbridge).
2. A172 Stokesley Road / A174 Marton interchange: A172 on bridge - chicanes into two-way single traffic lanes. Occasional temporary lane or full overnight closures, including use of temporary traffic signals when required. Right turns banned onto A174 and from A174 (left turns only on and off slip roads). A172 U-turns banned for 300m either side of bridge works. A174 overnight lane closures for works underneath bridge. Diversions in place during works. Major repair works. 2 March to autumn 2026. UPDATE: Slip-roads onto A174 from Stokesley Road closed due to safety concerns.

Utility works in the town this week:

1. Baldoon Sands (whole length): Multi-way lights for gas works. 16 March to 17 July.
2. Corporation Road (opposite junction with Wilson Street to outside Dr. Brown's): Lane closure for utilities works. 2 to 6 July.
3. Kelvin Grove: Road closure for water works. 8 June to 13 July.
4. Overdale Road: Multi-way lights for water works. 18 May to 27 July.
5. Penrith Road (junction with Mohan Court): Multi-way lights for water works. 21 May to 15 July.
6. Stokesley Road (beside Nunthorpe Community Centre): Multi-way lights for water works. 8 to 21 July.
7. Stokesley Road (outside Cherry Hill): Multi-way lights for power works. 29 June to 10 July.

Carriageway resurfacing and pothole works:

1. Ashford Avenue: Full closure with local diversions via Levick Crescent, Manton Avenue, Collinson Avenue. Micro asphalt carriageway resurfacing. 6 July, 8.30am to 4pm.
2. Saltersgill Avenue (number 152 to Sutton Way): Full closure with local diversions via Marton Road, Marton Burn Road, Keith Road. Micro asphalt carriageway resurfacing. 6-8 July, 8.30am to 4pm.
3. Wicklow Street (between Ayresome Street and Leinster Road): Full closure with local diversions via Kildare Street, Leinster Road. Micro asphalt carriageway resurfacing. 6 July, 8.30am to 4pm. Then reinstatement of speed humps. 7 and 8 July - tbc, 8.30am - 4pm.

Highway licence works this week:

1. Nunthorpe Gardens (whole length): Temporary rolling footway closures. Section 50 licence: installation of gas and electric infrastructure in the footway. 11 May to 18 July.
