The Corvette hobby has a reputation for big-money auctions, NCRS judging sheets, and trailer queens polished within an inch of their fiberglass lives. This 1979 Corvette, offered on Craigslist by Sovereign Auto in Flushing, Michigan for $12,000, is exactly that kind of car.

One of 53,807 Corvettes built that year, this coupe stands out for a reason that matters to anyone who actually likes to row through the gears: it’s equipped with the rare M21 close ratio 4 speed manual. Only about 7% of ’79 buyers checked that box, making this Silver over Black example a genuine needle in the haystack.

Under the hood sits the trusty L48 350—good for 195 horsepower—paired with a drivetrain the seller says is in good working order, along with a solid clutch and suspension. Other equipment includes power steering, 15-inch alloy wheels inside BFGoodrich Radial T/As, tilt-telescopic steering column, and removable T-top panels. With 57,774 miles shown, it’s lived a real life but still has plenty left to give. Also included are one set of keys, the original owner’s manual, and “some” spare parts.

Not everything works, of course. The tachometer is dead, the driver’s seat has a small rip, the factory A/C is present but not functional, and the AM/FM cassette has given up the ghost. But the bones are good, the brakes are brand new front and rear, and the seller calls it a “very solid driver” that’s ready to cruise as it is.

And that’s the point. This isn’t a museum piece. It’s a driver. A car meant to be shifted, leaned on, enjoyed. A car that still understands what a Corvette is supposed to feel like.
