The small flat on the ground floor of a building in the suburbs of Prague renovated by the local Neuhäusl Hunal practice is flooded with light. Cramped by the walls that used to define its kitchen, dining room and bedroom, the original 45-square-metre space has been turned into a single room that integrates all the existing windows. The hub of the intervention is a platform of birch plywood that houses the bed, closets and bookcases. Raised slightly above the level of the kitchen, the bed has been oriented in such a way as to enjoy a view of the garden. At the side, a structure clad in powder pink tiles contains the kitchen block.

The birch-wood podium is raised two steps above the floor of beech parquet. (ph. Radek Úlehla)To mark the difference between the living and service areas, the various functions of the spaces, bathroom and kitchen have been clad with pink tiles. (ph. Radek Úlehla)
