What does it mean to be successful? Tres mujeres, un camino brings together three women from different generations who reflect on their lives and what success has meant to each of them. Benedicta Sánchez made her film debut at the age of 84 in Oliver Laxe’s O que arde (Fire Will Come), a performance that earned her the Goya Award for Best New Actress. Laura Barceló, a six-time Spanish boxing champion who has won two silver medals and one bronze medal at European championships, has built her career in a sport where women still face significant barriers.
The documentary’s third subject is Marisol Soengas, a CNIO researcher who is also a breast cancer patient.
Soengas heads the CNIO’s Melanoma Group and is internationally recognised for her research into this type of cancer. Her team studies the mechanisms that enable melanoma to spread and evade the body’s immune defences, with the aim of identifying new therapeutic strategies.
Directed by Antonio Alonso, the 30-minute documentary explores how social expectations and personal experiences shape our understanding of success. The film has received several awards at international festivals, including Best Documentary at the Sicilian Film Festival and the Couch Film Festival, as well as a Special Jury Mention at Lugo Film Week.
The documentary’s director will attend the screening and take part in a discussion with Soengas and the audience afterwards.
