Nearly a decade after what may have seemed like a Halloween nightmare, Ventura County authorities have charged a man they say attacked a woman while wearing a mask resembling the one from the “Scream” movie franchise in Simi Valley in 2017.
Richardo Jimenez-Garcia, 38, was one of several men who attacked a woman who was walking along Galena Avenue on Sept. 21, 2017, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Friday.
Jimenez-Garcia and the other suspects allegedly attacked the woman with a knife while concealing their identities behind the masks.

Riverside County investigators reopen 1980 cold case after identifying victim
The victim called 911, but the case remained cold for nine years until last month when the District Attorney’s Office identified Jimenez-Garcia and arrested him on Sept. 9.
Authorities believe there may be other victims of Jimenez-Garcia and his co-conspirators.
Anyone who witnessed the attack or recognizes Jimenez-Garcia is urged to contact District Attorney Investigator Yumi Kirk at (805) 477-1638.
Charges have been filed against Jimenez-Garcia in connection with the attack, the District Attorney’s Office said.
